CM Student Machinist: Coy Christianson

I get the best job in the shop.

My Role Is...

More mental than it is physical.

I get to read a CAD drawing, and then program it into CNC lathe. I really like it because if you're accurate, and you get the programming running well, you finish way faster than someone on a manual lathe.

 My Prerequisites Are...

  • Freshman Year: Metals 1
    • Welding, Tig Welding, Mig Welding, Brazing, Run Mills, Run Lathes
  • Sophomore Year: Metals 2
    • Machining, Run Mills, Run Lathes
  • Junior Year: CNC
    • Learn to run the CNC lathe
  • Today: Run CNC Lathe

    My Thoughts on Cardinal Manufacturing...

My interest is what brought me to Cardinal Manufacturing, over other offered classes. I probably couldn't see Cardinal not being a major part of my life, because it's pretty fun and I would love to have it be my career. It kind of helps me feel closer with my community because whenever someone needs something fixed, and they see me, they'll ask if I can bring it in to the shop and fix it.

I don't know if I'm more than just a "high school student," but I'm probably busier than the average one. I have football, basketball, lifting, a job, and Cardinal. I manage my time so well because we have strict deadlines we need to meet.

     My Future Plans...

I would like to attend a four-year college, if I can get a scholarship for football. If that plan does not work out, my back-up is to attend Chippewa Valley Technical College for Machine School.
